The International Registration Plan is a registration agreement among U.S. states and Canadian provinces that apportions a commercial vehicle’s registration fees based on the miles it travels in each jurisdiction. A carrier registers with its base state and receives an apportioned, or IRP, plate. It generally applies to vehicles over 26,000 pounds or with three or more axles used across jurisdiction lines.
