Electronic logging device
Also: ELD
An electronic logging device connects to a vehicle’s engine and automatically records driving time, so a driver’s hours-of-service record cannot be edited as freely as a paper log. Most drivers required to keep records of duty status must use a registered ELD. Certain short-haul drivers and older or occasional-use vehicles can be exempt.
